§ 65-6-2. Connection of building sewer to sewer main.

  • (a)

    General Requirements:

    (1)

    Any connection of a building sewer main shall be made through existing manufactured tees previously installed, or as otherwise approved by the Building Official or his designee.

    (2)

    Trenches shall not be left open longer than a reasonable length of time to complete the work therein and have the work inspected by the Building Official or his designee.

    (3)

    Sewers shall be protected at all times from damage by water and mud.

    (b)

    Taps:

    (1)

    No eight-inch sanitary sewer shall be tapped for a building sewer larger than five (5) inches, unless approved by the Director of the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services of Fairfax County. Sanitary sewers ten (10) inches or larger may have a six-inch tap.

    (2)

    Whenever a section of a sewer main is broken or damaged, the party responsible for the damage shall immediately notify the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services and immediately replace or repair, at no cost to the County, the broken section under the direction of the Building Official or his designee.

    (3)

    Trunk lines shall not be tapped except when approved by the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services.

    (c)

    Connection of Building Sewer to Manhole: A building sewer shall not be connected to a manhole unless approved by the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services. Such connection shall be made without cost to the County.

    (d)

    Minimum cover: No building sewer shall be laid with less than eighteen (18) inches of cover; except that when a building sewer terminates in a septic tank, its minimum cover shall be twelve (12) inches. (15-95-65; 18-98-65.)
