§ 13-1-13. Volunteer traffic control program.

Latest version.
  • Authorized by the County Board of Supervisors, the Fairfax County Police Department's Chief of Police shall have the authority to deputize persons over the age of eighteen for the limited purpose of directing traffic during periods of heavy traffic or congestion provided that they are trained as the Chief of Police determines necessary to carry out this task. The Chief of Police shall have the authority to prescribe the uniform, equipment, organization and such rules and regulations as he or she shall deem necessary for the operation of the Volunteer Traffic Control Program. While on duty, the County and Police Department are directly liable for the activities of individuals involved in the Volunteer Traffic Control Program, and they will be automatically covered under the County's general liability coverage plan that currently insures the Auxiliary Police Officers and the Volunteers in Police Service. Injuries sustained by volunteers in the program will be provided insurance coverage in the same manner as Auxiliary Police Officers and Volunteers in Police Service. (19-04-13.)
