§ 85-1-6. Failure to pay fare prohibited; penalty

  • (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly board a public passenger vehicle which is transporting passengers in regular route service, or to knowingly enter or leave a paid area of a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) rail transit station without paying the established fare or presenting a valid transfer for transportation on a public passenger vehicle. "Paying the established fare" is defined as payment for transportation in the amount, manner, method and procedures directed by the operator.

    (b) It shall be unlawful for any person to refuse to leave any public passenger vehicle or a paid area of the WMATA rail transit station after having been ordered to do so by the operator or other designated agent.

    (c) Any person violating this Section shall upon conviction be fined not more than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00).
