§ 64-1-2. Definitions

  • For the purposes of this Chapter, unless the context shall otherwise clearly require, the words and phrases not otherwise defined herein shall have the meanings as defined in Chapter 61 of the Code of the County of Fairfax. The following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this Section:

    (1) Apprentice shall mean a person who assists tradesmen while gaining knowledge of the trade through on-the-job training and related instruction in accordance with the Voluntary Apprenticeship Act of the Code of Virginia.

    (2) Board of Supervisors shall mean the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

    (3) Journeyman HVAC tradesman shall mean any person who has been licensed as a HVAC master tradesman pursuant to the Code of Virginia, as amended.

    (4) Master HVAC tradesman shall mean any person who has been licensed as a HVAC journeyman tradesman pursuant to the Code of Virginia, as amended.

    (5) Gas fitter shall mean a tradesman who does gas fitting-related work as a division within the HVAC or plumbing trades.

    (6) Helper shall mean a person who assists a tradesman licensed pursuant to the Code of Virginia, as amended.

    (7) HVAC shall mean heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

    (8) HVAC contractor shall mean any person engaged in the business of contracting with others to perform mechanical work and who has been licensed or certified pursuant to the Code of Virginia. The term "HVAC contractor" shall also include any specialty contractor as defined in this Chapter.

    (9) Mechanical work shall mean the installation, maintenance, repair, replacement, or alteration of mechanical equipment and systems as defined in the current edition of the VUSBC.

    (10) Person shall mean any individual, firm, association, partnership, joint venture or other legal entity.

    (11) Specialty contractor shall mean any person licensed or certified pursuant to the Code of Virginia in a specialty service as defined by the Regulations of the Board for Contractors which provides for the installation, repair, improvement or removal of equipment regulated as mechanical equipment in the VUSBC.

    (12) Tradesman shall mean any individual who engages in, or offers to engage in, work for the general public for compensation in the trades of gas fitting and HVAC.

    (13) Virginia Class A contractor shall mean any person licensed by the State of Virginia as a Class A contractor pursuant to the Code of Virginia, as amended.

    (14) Virginia Class B contractor shall mean any person licensed by the State of Virginia as a Class B contractor pursuant to the Code of Virginia, as amended.

    (15) Virginia Class C contractor shall mean any person certified by the State of Virginia as a Class C contractor pursuant to the Code of Virginia, as amended. (10-84-64; 23-88-64; 2-94-64; 14-95-64; 17-98-64; 6-02-64.)
